It is an honour and a privilege to have been appointed Canada’s 46th Speaker of the Senate of Canada. I have accepted this responsibility with pride and with abiding commitment to serve Canadians and their Parliament with the utmost respect whilst carrying out the duties bestowed upon me by the Prime Minister of Canada on February 8, 2006.
I also share this honour with the people of New Brunswick whom I have had the very fortunate opportunity to represent since my nomination to the Senate on September 12, 1990.
I invite you to peruse this Web site and would hope that you take from it an enlightened perspective on the function and role of the Speaker in Canada’s Upper House, as well as who I am and what I stand for as a Senator.
